A corneal abrasion results when the top layer the cornea is scuffed off  by being rubbed with some other object.

The classic sign of a corneal abrasion is pain, a foreign body sensation with blinking, tearing and light sensitivity. Vision maybe blurred.

Because the top protective layer of the cornea is damaged there is an increased risk of infection.
